What A Blurry 6 Year Old Facebook Picture Reminded Me About Hard Years and Friendship

There’s very little I like about social media these days. Now and again though, something I see on one of the platforms that stops me in my tracks. That’s what happened yesterday in the form of a Facebook “memory”.

It was a picture from 6 years ago. For whatever reason despite being shot on an earlier generation iPhone, the picture is a little blurry but clear enough to speak volumes to the two men featured.

It was a picture of myself and my longest-running genuine friend, Shawn Wilson. Shawn and I were standing next to each other at a home business event in Dallas Texas.

For entrepreneurs, you know the shot. It’s a typical “event shot”. Lanyards placed prominently around our necks standing in the reception area of a hotel ballroom. Random other lanyard laden people just off to the sides taking similar shots. It’s a go-to picture to post on social media for many entrepreneurs that’s code for, “Look here, I’m amazing, you should be here, we’re changing the world, I’m so cool, etc…”
